Methodology

Why you can trust a Tail Score

Most "top wallet" trackers rank by raw PnL — which mostly measures who got lucky on size. We rank by evidence the record will hold up on the next bet.

  • Held-to-resolution wins. A bettor only gets credit for holding the side that actually won. Selling early neither helps nor hides a bad call.
  • Wilson confidence bounds. A 4-0 heater ranks below a 45-15 grinder. Small samples are shrunk toward uncertainty instead of topping the charts.
  • Difficulty-aware. Winning coin-flips at 50¢ counts for more than collecting 84¢ favorites. Entries above the price cap are excluded entirely.
  • Fees included, inactivity fades. P&L is net of ~2% fees, and bettors with no recently resolved bet drop off the boards instead of coasting on stale glory.
  • Validated out-of-sample. We split history at a cutoff date, pick leaders using only pre-cutoff data, and measure whether they keep beating the category baseline afterwards. They do — and that test ships with the product, so you can re-run it.

Placing the same bet as someone whose record you trust — following their pick. The hard part isn't copying a bet, it's knowing whose record is real. That's what Polytail does: it rebuilds every bettor's actual on-chain record so you tail proof, not screenshots.

Holding the outcome that won, at the moment the market resolved. It measures picking skill independent of trade timing: a bettor who bought YES at 40¢ and held to a YES resolution scored a win, whether it was up or down along the way.

Because raw PnL and raw win rate collapse on the next stretch of bets — the top of a naive leaderboard is mostly luck and size. Our own backtest shows it: selecting by raw win rate underperforms selecting by the Wilson-adjusted Tail Score on unseen, later markets. We rank by what actually predicts the next bet.
